Personal Journal from Volunteers in Mission Trip to Zimbabwe

June 20, 2000 - Tuesday

Yesterday, Mel Mott picked us up in Cindy Dalton's Jeep at 2:30 p.m. We were ready, just turn off the water and set the alarm system!

We were the first to arrive at 3:20 p.m. at Dulles Airport's Delta check-in. By 4:15 all twelve of us had arrived. Our group consists of Maya, Kisha, Rita and Gerry Green, plus Jonathan Kidwell, Lauren Johnson, Kate Roberton, Cindy Dalton, Janet Schnabel, Sarah Jane Weaver and the two of us (Joyce and Jerry McCowin). Our flight to Atlanta left an hour and a half late at 8:00 p.m. We had all gotten something to eat and then got a large snack on the flight.

We arrived in Atlanta at 9:30 and rushed to catch our flight to London which was to leave at 9:55. We were the last two to board a completely booked flight. They literally closed the gate behind us!

At present, Jerry and I are guarding a lot of luggage while the others roam the airport. We all arrived at Gatwick Airport in London at 11:00 London time. It is cool and pouring rain.

Jerry and I were going to guard the luggage while the others went into London. We found a convenient location and proceeded to play gin. Then Jonathan, Kate and Lauren appeared. They all decided there wasn't enough time to take one hour to London and one hour back and get back by 4:00. So they are wandering about the airport.

It looks as though Jerry and I will likely do a lot less running around than these younger ones!
