Isaiah 5: 8-17
1 Thessalonians 5: 1-11
Luke 21: 20-28
The prophet Isaiah, in the above portion of his
writings, makes observations of certain trends in the attitude and behavior of
those living in his country. He is disturbed by the increasing self interest of
individuals with no concern for the well being of their neighbors. His concern
is that these trends, if left to continue, will result in a
"disaster" for all. His plea is for all to show their love and
respect for God and to also extend their love and concern to all people.
Luke in his Gospel chapter, provides us with the words
of Jesus based on the messages he has received as the Son of God. Jesus confirms that the words of Isaiah were
indeed true. Jesus also indicates that all should be prepared for His “second coming"
Paul in his first letter to the church in
Thessalonica reminds the members to continue to be good Christians, showing
serious concern for others, and being
ready for the second coming of the Lord, which he indicates may happen
at any time.
As we enter the Christmas season, we are very
thankful that God has sent His Son to us to guide us in our loving and caring
relationship with all others.
Prayer: Our
Father, God, we thank you for your message of love shown through the birth of
your Son, Jesus. We pray that you will remind us and guide us to extend Jesus'
love through our thoughts, words, and actions to all the people of the world. Amen.
