Isaiah 6:1-13
2 Thessalonians 1:1-12
John 7:53 - 8:11

Isaiah 6 begins by describing the Lord as he sits on a throne “high and exalted and the train of his robe filled the temple” (6:1). What a glorious sight for all of us to behold, especially during this time of the year when we celebrate the holiday season and the birth of our Lord and Savior.

As the holiday season ends and we have recalled, reminisced, sung about, and honored the birth of our Lord and Savior, we begin a new year of fulfilling our mission as Christians: to bring disciples to Jesus Christ.

In Isaiah 6:8-10 we are reminded that as Christians our responsibility is to deliver the Lord’s message. “Go and tell the people: Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving. Make the heart of his people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”

Whether we are ready, whether we are able, our mandate as Christians is to spread the Lord’s word in order to prepare for his coming.

Prayer: Dear Lord, It is so easy to be proud of the good works that we do that we forget to whom we must give thanks—to you. Without you nothing would be possible and all our gifts would be meaningless. May we remember to thank you when others thank us so we can give the glory to the One, you my Lord, who deserves it.  Amen.
