Isaiah 8:16 – 9:1
2 Peter 1:1-11
Luke 22:39-53
Isaiah 8:16 -9:1—Christmas is my favorite time of year.
I love how the energy of the coming celebration flows between people. It is
contagious and it fills my heart with joy. I just love being able to come
together in faith and worship. There is a sense of anticipation for that day
when we are able to celebrate the birth Jesus.
This particular passage
from Isaiah discusses the importance of trusting in God’s promise. At this
time, the people of Israel were eager for some sign of the coming Messiah. They
were hungry for the love of their future Savior. Things didn’t seem to be going
that well for Israel. They thought that god had turned away from them and left
them behind. But that was not the case. Instead, God had a plan and in his
time, he would send the Messiah. The people of Israel simply had to wait for
the Messiah. That is similar to the anticipation that I feel at Christmas time.
I am waiting for this glorious day that we celebrate each year. As a child, it
seems like that day will never come. But in Isaiah, we are told to wait, and
eventually we will get to that day, and we will be able to celebrate the birth
of Jesus. So for everyone out there anxious for Christmas, trust in God that
the day will come!
Prayer: Dear God, Please
grant us the patience we need in order to wait for Christmas. Sometimes it is
hard, but as long as we trust in you, we are able to do anything. We thank you
for your everlasting love. Amen.
