Isaiah 9:8-17    
2 Peter 2:1-10a    
Mark 1:1-8

Mark speaks of John the Baptist through Isaiah, the Prophet, who proclaims a messenger will be sent before the Savior, “a voice of one calling in the desert, prepare the way for the Lord, make straight the way for him.” John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus.  His message was, “After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.”

Advent is the time to “prepare the way for the Lord, make straight the way for him.”  Do you ever feel with all the preparing you do, that come Christmas morning you are exhausted?  Was the path straight?  Did all your preparation bring you to the “one more powerful than I”?  Was the JOY of our Savior’s birth inside of you?  

Throughout the season of Advent let us check to make sure we are preparing our way to the Lord.  Do we feel the joy of giving in our hearts?  Have we thanked God for each new day?  Have we done something nice for someone outside our family today?  Have we rejoiced in the sacrifices of our time and energy that we give to others?  Do we smile and say “thanks”?

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, thank you for the season of Advent. Thank you for giving to us this time to prepare our homes as well as our hearts for the coming of the most glorious and joyful birth of your son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Amen.
