Isaiah wrote during the stormy period
marking the expansion of the Assyrian Empire and the decline of Israel. In Isaiah 2:4, however, he writes about
“Jerusalem’s future blessings.” “God
will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against
nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” When I think of “nations beating their
swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks” I think of peace. When I think of peace I think of Jesus “the
Prince of Peace.” In Isaiah 9:6 his prophesy is about the
coming of the Messiah. “For to us a
child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on his
shoulders. And he will be called wonderful
counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” I believe what we need to bring peace
to our nation is a national revival. I
believe what we need to bring peace to the world is an international revival. May we at this Christmas season pray
for our nation and the world to come to Jesus that we may have “Peace on Earth
and Good Will to all.” Prayer: Dear Lord, I believe you are the Prince of
Peace. I pray that our nation and the
nations of the world will come to you during this Christmas season, that we may
truly have peace on Earth and good will to all peoples. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Ed Becraft |
