Heifer International - Sunday School offerings go to Heifer International during Lent. Hungry families from Zambia to Appalachia have used Heifer livestock and training to alleviate hunger and poverty to become self-reliant for food and income.  Find out more about Heifer International by clicking here. Heifer

Since 1994, the Sunday School has collected over $22,500 for Heifer Project International (HPI) during Lent.

When the Volunteers In Mission traveled to Africa University in summer 2000, we were given a tour of their farm.  It was interesting to learn that everything served in the cafeteria was grown and raised on their farm.  When we visited the dairy barn, we were excited to learn that their first heifer was a donation from Heifer Project!  It was rewarding to see the recipients of a project we have supported for so many years.

HPI has more than 300 projects in over 40 countries.  They are a non-profit organization that helps hungry people feed themselves, earn income and care for the environment.  To learn more about them, you can log onto their web site at www.heifer.org

    A Bible's Monthly Diary

  • January:
  • All the family resolved to read all of the Bible next year. The resolution lasted two weeks.
  • February:
  • The first day was busy. Mother had just been elected President of the PTA. She needed to include two appropriate verses in her acceptance speech.
  • March:
  • The family had a great argument. Each person was right. Everyone searched the Bible to find a verse to support his/her opinion.
  • April:
  • Grandpa visited. He read the Bible a lot while I sat on his knee. He believes that Bible reading keeps children quiet.
  • May:
  • 1 now have several large green stains, acquired while the children attempted to press some weeds in the book of "Numbers."
  • June:
  • 1 am now a scrapbook. One of the family's daughters is getting married. She has collected newspaper accounts of every wedding east of the Mississippi. Because of my good name, she stored them between the pages of "Song of Solomon". I am now known as "The Bulging Bible."
  • July:
  • I am stored in the bottom of a suitcase.
  • August: I am still in the bottom of the suitcase.
  • September:
  • Home at last! On a secluded shell. Two magazines and four comic books are piled on top of me.
  • October:
  • A member of the family is sick. The pastor is coming. I have been dusted, and placed on the middle of the coffee table.
  • November:
  • I have been put back on my old shelf, everyone is too busy to look at me with all the Thanksgiving preparations.
  • December:
  • The whole family is fully occupied "getting ready for the holidays." Nobody seems much interested in finding me and reading how Christmas got started, and why it's still important.
